April 2021 The Baystater Blogger
Hey BeSTTies!
Hope everyone is shaking out the cobwebs from winter and quarantine! We have been busy getting ready for a RETURN TO RACING!
- A group of fearless Baystaters competed and volunteered at the On Your Left Goddard Duathlon last weekend, and even though it was coooooold, it was so great to see fellow athletes out there (even though it was a small field) getting competitive while still staying safe. Great planning has to go into these events (even prior to COVID), so I have HUGE RESPECT for all race directors as they plan for the return to fun time in 2021.
- Thank you to all who made the First Annual Cabin Fever Duathlon a "virtual" success! We had fun getting those transitions done, didn't we, people? Hahhahah- I seriously need some WORK on getting off my bike and into those shoes! And special thanks to our sponsor, Bob KEEZER of Keezer Sportswear who made us these amazingly comfy tees! Swaggggalicious!
THE BSTT LEADERSHIP SUMMIT!
- The BSTT Leadership Summit gave the Board a chance to meet "face to face" with race directors and sponsors, and we had such a great morning, getting our runs/rides done, having a little snack, and then hitting the Google Meets with Mark Walter, Tim Richmond, Kathleen Thomas and Andy Scherding, and Eric from PowerBar Sport! So much info! Here's what we can share with you:
- There should be a state announcement soon regarding the phase transition to 4 which will allow road races to happen in Massachusetts. Mark and Tim have been working with the state in these meetings to come to the table with a problem solving mindset, and have, with this team front loaded a lot of the logistics for the state in terms of how we can get "Back on Course" in terms of racing.
- COVID safety measures will be in place at all races- this will mean changes to seeding at swim starts, mask wearing at swim starts, potential of buff wearing in some cases, aid stations may be self serve in some cases, rack distances will be in compliance with social distancing.. etc. More details will be forthcoming from each RD, but this is all good planning and we wanted to share with you.
- Races will probably be not having spectators, post race festivities or award ceremonies. This is already the way things are happening in NH races.. so, that will mean no race tent, or social gathering after races. And that's OK, because I think athletes will be OK with this slow release of "racing normalcy" as we get back from quarantining safely and mindfully.
- Wanna Cheer? VOLUNTEER!!!! That's my 2021 GO TO STATEMENT hahahhah... but seriously- if you would like to be at a race and are not registered to compete, but want to cheer on team mates, RDs will be sharing a link to "register to volunteer" soon. When they do this, we will share it with the team on the FB page and in an email- we would love to see a SEA OF BSTT!
- Sun Multisport/Patriot VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Yes, this registration link will be sent to all of you and we will also keep tabs on who volunteers so that we can award volunteer points!
- Max Performance/Harvest (6/12) VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! We are swapping the volunteer possibility from Season Opener to Harvest, as SO was postponed and we usually provide ample volunteers for Tim at that race- let's get a big group to help out at this one! Tim will share the link soon to register to volunteer and we will get that right out to you.
- NEEE/Falmouth/Hyannis- Same here, VOLUNTEERS will be asked to register and each 12 athletes/volunteers in these races will get us a free race entry to raffle off to YOU!
- PowerBar Sport- We met with Eric Zaltas from PBS and man, was he cool. An athlete, and a nutrition scholar! So, we would like to get something planned in May where Eric does a nutrition chat with us, and we will share that info/link prior to it happening. If the team enjoys it, we can plan something more consistent with Eric. If you would like to follow Eric on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/powerbarsport
- In addition, we have the following discount code for all team members to use: 30% off from the website: 2020BayStateTri30% This is the site: (https://sport.powerbar.com)
- Also, Tim from QT2 has a training weekend planned in Lake Placid- check out the info if you are interested! IRONMAN Lake Placid Camp, June 10-13. It is starting to fill a bit! Finally! Here is a link to it: https://www.qt2systems.com/lake-placid-training-camp/ . Obviously, BSTT athletes would get a discount on it.
Have a great weekend!
Your Presidente',
Jack Wagon
