I love winter

Hellllo, Mid-January!

So exciting to hear that many of us are doing the January Barn to Run Challenge, put together by Mark Walter.. I have to say, it's motivating me to get those miles in, and I am having lots of fun doing it.  I hope you are all finding ways to still get out there, even in the cold.. the days are shorter, but I see you all on Strava and Zwift getting it done!

So, what's cooking?

  • We have the next training event happening this coming weekend- Cycle Life will have a class for Baystaters on Sunday, January 23rd at 10AM. If people are already Cycle Life clients they can just sign up as usual. For those who aren't, they can either download the Cycle Life app or just go the website: cyclelifestudio.com/schedule and sign up there. They have capacity for 19 riders at a time, so if you are finding more people want to ride we can add another ride before or after this one! Don't forget you have a 15% discount code: BSTT15.  We have 14 RSVPs on the Facebook event, but need you all to register online- thanks!
  • After the class, we will be around to hang out- just an informal meet up for BSSTies.
  • A bunch of us will be running the Paddy Kelly 5 Miler on Sunday, February 6th- use it as a speed workout!  I will see you there!  Register HERE.
  • Brian Ayotte and Zach Samuels have shared a Zwift Challenge on Facebook!  Please consider joining- there's cookies for a couple of lucky people.. LOL
    • Who loves Zwift?  The stages of the Tour de Zwift are up and we are going to have a bit of a contest based in total time to complete the B distance of the remaining stages (stages 3-8). Remember that this is for the medium distance. Please record your time on the third tab of the Google sheet where we are tracking stage completions. The spreadsheet is now updated with the Race sheet: LINK.  Please enter your time as mm:ss (minutes:seconds).  Have fun!
  • The 2022 BSTT Kits!  Thanks to Amy Carlson, we will have a great set of sponsors in 2022- these will be listed on the kits (not yet seen above..), and I can't wait to share the Voler Team page with you all- this will be opening up in the end of February- So pumped.. To give shipping plenty of time let's aim for a March 7 order due date. This will ship April 14. Voler recommends leaving a team store open for about 2 weeks. Prior to this you will have sizing samples available at BikeBarn.
  • Races are opening for registration!  Check each reg site, as many are already open, and don't forget to use your EXCLUSIVE DISCOUNT as a BSTTie.  These are located on the membership benefits page of our BSTT website.
  • Membership Update- we are at 118 members!  So excited!  Let's see if we can get back up to the 150 we were at in 2021.. poke a friend who's looking to join!
    • Welcome/Welcome Back: Wesley Gardner, David Romeo, Aaron DaPonte, Luis Melendez, Anne Mullin Kuczma, John Murphy, Kathy Madore, Stuart Christie, Arthur Madore, Joe DeBlois, Linda Honneus, Morgan Wealti and Carl Potts!
Member Spotlight:  Thanks to Sue Clavin for these great snapshots!
  • Member Spotlight I: Joe Mlynek: Originally from Fall River, Joe now lives in Rhode Island with his dog, Tater. A self proclaimed foodie, Joe loves to cook and drink craft beer. When not racing triathlons, Joe loves to read, travel, trail run, ski and go to concerts. Joe's first sprint was Oh My Goddard in 2010. He was a member of the now defunct Tri-mom Team before joining Baystate. Joe loved the camaraderie, support and fun he saw Baystate team members having at races. His goals for 2022 are to continue to heal, be pain free, lose weight and complete an Olympic distance triathlon. I have no doubt Joe, who can be seen volunteering and cheering his fellow team member on when not racing will reach his goals! Joe's positive attitude and selflessness is why he was awarded Baystate volunteer of the year.  Great guy, that Joe!
  • Member Spotlight II: Danielle Breault-Holmes is a new member to the team. She is a Physical Therapist who lives in Lakeville with her husband and dog. She and her husband have 3 grown children who live on their own. Danielle has been doing triathlons for 5 years, her first was done on a “dare” from a friend who was looking for a “partner in crime”. When she isn’t working, Danielle loves to read, garden, go glamping and hang with family and friends. Danielle helps coach DH varsity softball and loves to play “blooper ball” which I will encourage her to teach us at one of our Baystate training days. Danielle joined Baystate to meet like minded people, improve her overall race times and have fun. Welcome to the team Danielle!
As always, I will leave you with a little inspiration to keep you thinking..  Enjoy!  -Jackie
